I guess I don't have any clever technical answer to give you. It's just that I've been to www.mysql.com and really liked what I saw. It gave me the "impression" that there's a lot of support and it's very popular database engine. I've also spent quite a bit of time already getting familiar with it and don't have a lot of time to start getting acquainted with another database engine. I wouldn't mind trying postgress, but perhaps with another project.
