I have Gentoo installed.  Everything is good except GRUB.

When I try to boot, I receive an error that the device =
"cciss/disc0/part7" cannot be found.

This refers to a Compaq hardware RAID controller.

Support for the controller IS built into the kernel.  (I just recompiled =
it to be sure).

I get a GRUB prompt when I first boot.  This is fine, Gentoo's install =
warns that you'll have some screwiness with GRUB after their install.  =
They have me create a boot floppy.

Anyways, At the GRUB prompt, it goes...

grub> root (hd0,0)
Filesystem type is ext2fs partition type 0x83

grub> kernel /boot/bzImage root=3D/dev/cciss/disc0/part7
 Linux-bzImage, setup=3D0xa00, size=3D0x1095a4

grub> boot
    Blah, blah, blah starts booting...

Now, clearly, it can see the /boot partition, I can use TAB to "browse" =
through it.

However, the boot starts, and then it pukes with the following error.

VFS: Cannot open root device "cciss/disc0/part7" or 00:cc
Please append a correct "root=3D" boot option
Kernel Panic.  VFS: Unable to open root fs on 00:cc

Disk setup is as follows.
Array 1
    Disc0
        part1   /boot          ext3    100 Meg
        part2   Swap                   1Gig
        part5   /var            ext3    3Gig
        part6   /usr            ext3    3Gig
        part7   /                ext3    1.5Gig

Array2
    Disc1
        part1  /home        xfs    300Gig

Any thoughts?

There is no data on here, so I can play with anything...

Kev.
