Just another heads-up to the CLUG and another opportunity for members to participate in the promotion and support of Linux and Open Source Software. As part of my business plan for Open Enterprise Solutions I intend to organise a very well promoted and advertised "open" session and presentation to the public, local businesses and hopefully government representatives, on Open Source Software and Linux. The Calgary Chamber of Commerce will also be involved and I have already been speaking with them about space.

Topics/Title would be along the lines of "Open Source Software in your Business" or "Unravelling the Fear Uncertainty and Doubt surrounding Linux and Open Source Software", or "How Linux and Open Source Software can save your company millions" etc etc. Although this is very much in the planning stages right now I would expect that early Spring (Feb-March) would be the time line and I envision 3-4 speakers with at least one keynote speaker. I have already been speaking with Bruce Perens and although his time is VERY limited and expensive (200-400 US an hour), it is not out of the question since I also intend to approach corporate and government sponsors very soon. There are many details and leg work still to be completed, not to mention the focus/topics of the presentation and research, so I will be starting some of the planning and organising within the next week or so.

There will be a survey available by no later than Sunday, December 1st for any interested members to fill out with relevant information. Basically, if you are comfortable with public speaking, especially to large, corporate or government audiences, and have extensive, or at least reasonably extensive, experience and knowledge of the typical corporate IT mentality, issues, obstacles along with Linux and Open Source Industry knowledge, and wish to be on the front line of a very public Linux/OSS advocacy drive, then this may interest you. I am sincerely hoping that this will generate more sincere interest than my previous offer posted on this list. Either way, this presentation WILL happen and the support and participation of the CLUG would be beneficial for all involved.

And for those of you who may be suspicious, or judgemental of the intentions and motivation behind this offer coming from a "business" (Open Enterprise Solutions), for the sake of everyone involved I suggest that you contact me off list and we can arrange for a meeting and all cards will be put on the table. In short, "Open Enterprise Solutions" would be an identified sponsor and organizer of the presentation, but would not be actively promoting its own products or services at the presentation. However, any questions directed to Open Enterprise Solutions at the presentation would be answered and OES would be presented as an example of how Linux and OSS can be marketed to business and Enterprise clients. Part of the "services" offered by OES would also be access to local Linux and OSS consultants, including interested CLUG members. Now much of the details and specifics of this relationship still need to be ironed out but suffice it to say that the intent is to encourage and s! upport a mutally beneficial and cooperative relationship. There are no greedy or "money grubbing scum" (David Letterman), here.

So, as an initial outline of the areas in which help is needed, here is what to expect on the weekend survey/questionaire:

Name
Age
Education
Current Job title and responsibilites
Can you commit to daytime support/participation
Days/times you are available to assist.
Years experience in Corporate IT
Years experience with Linux and OSS
Your "specialties/interests" which you could speak on.
In one paragraph, why you would like to be a part of this presentation.
What would you like to obtain/receive from participating?
Areas in which you would be willing to assist:

- Planning
-Topic Research
-Topic Presentation
- Sponsorship
- Promotion

Again, this is rough and the finished survey, along with a privacy statement, will be available no later than Sunday evening.

Have a great day everyone and "Happy Penguin"
