Hey all, Well, I've been doing some information gathering and testing for a few weeks now and am just about ready to take the final step and convert my primary PC to linux (likely Gentoo 1.4, but possibly Mandrake 9).
I have a couple of questions here: I've checked out hardware compatibility as much as possible (I think), but I'm still a little nervous. Sys specs: AMD Athlon XP 1800+ 512MB RAM Asus A7V333 mobo Creative SB Live! Soundcard Leadtek GeForce4 Ti4400 video card Creative 6X DVD-ROM LG 52X CD-ROM Maxtor 60GB 7200RPM Maxtor 40GB 7200RPM MS Intellimouse Explorer Optical Mouse (USB) Intel Pro 10/100 NIC I think that about covers it. Anyone see any potential snags with the above hardware config? Secondly, can Evolution or Kmail import Outlook PST files (so I don't lose all my existing and archived e-mail). Finally, (I know it's silly), but I enjoy playing CS as well as a few other Half-Life mods now and again. Does anyone know if Half-Life will run natively in linux or do I need to emulate? I see that Unreal Tournament 2003 runs fine, so that's an added plus ;-) I suddenly realized some time ago that my list of "linux pros and cons" had become overwhelmingly in favour of the "pro" side of things, so I figured that, since all I really do now from my home PC is surf, "do" e-mail, occasional game of UT2K3 or HL there really wasn't anything preventing my converting this desktop to linux. Comments/suggestions, etc. welcome ;-) Regards, Chris
