If it is a hardware issue then a switch to Linux will not help, however if you
can determine that it is a software issue then you should go to Linux as it will
not crash on you like Windows will. Having said that I used to have a machine
with a Cyrex i686 chip that would reboot itself. We tried installing an extra
CPU fan,  but it didn't help and the chip would still overheat and reboot. The
only fix was to replace it with a Pentium.
