You don't think a website can give you a virus just as easy as through
email? The risks are relatively the same. The main reason that a mailing
list is more efficient then a forum is because I already have to check my
email, I don't have to go to another website or forum to get the
information I need, it's all in one place. I'm not against setting up a
forum but I can tell you that I won't visit it very much, not because I'm
trying to be difficult but because I don't have time. It's not about
trying to evade the newbies either, that is why I am here. Sure once in a
blue moon I may post a problem I am having but 99 percent of the time I
can solve the problem without resorting to asking for help on a mailing
list. The only reason I'm on the list is for the newbies, not trying to
evade them by not going to a forum. Honestly if someone wants my help,
from my free time then they can ask for help using the medium /I/ have
chosen to use. If I had time to go to the forums and read all the posts,
etc I would but life doesn't allow me that much time. People can go ahead
and use a forum, but I can guarantee you a lot of the people that will be
able to help you won't have the time necessary to visit it all the time,
you will get answers faster through email.
