Well I can think of one reason to change a mac address. A few years ago
I bought 2 network cards from the same manufacturer and low and behold
they had the same mac address. Rather than send them back, I just
changed the mac address and everything was fine.

Second of all, ever had an ISP that gives you a modem that is progammed
for a specific MAC address? (You must register your mac address with the
ISP). I had the misfortune of having a network card fail at 3am in the
morning (at a client site) and find out "Darn, now I have to wait till
morning to regsiter the new card" - then decided I wasn;t going to wait
until 8am since I had a deadline so I reprogrammed the network card with
the old MAC address of the one that failed, and I was able to do work
until I could phone the ISP.

Lastly, changing the mac address is great if you are a software
developer who wants to see the side effects of having mutiple systems
with the same mac address and/or IP address.
