I'm curious, Kevin, what did you find?  I'd be interested to know specifically what you find out in terms of backup software (I will be facing the same question soon myself, though the tape drive I got is not a library type - it's single tape only).

I should have STFWed a but further.

I found it, I think...

Any suggestions would still be greatly appreciated.

Subject: (clug-talk) IBM Library Question.

I've had an IBM 3583 Tape Library more or less fall to me.

It's a slick little unit, which can shuffle it's own tapes, and stuff.  But I suspect it'll take more than a tar command to make it work.

Does anyone have any experience with tape autoloaders, or alternately, can anyone point me in the direction of a support site where I might be able to find some instructions on how to accomplish this?

I'll end up needing a fairly short list of things.

I need to get tapes entered into the Library (Scan the Barcode, and keep track of where everything is.)
I need to move a tape from in the Library to one of the Tape Drives (By barcode)
I need to move data onto the tape (TAR?)
I need to get the tape out of the drive, and back to the library.
Lastly, I need to be able to eject the tapes from the library.

Kev.
