While I have never used the staroffice database module, I have done some reading on it. AFAIK the GUi database module gives you the choice of a number of back ends the standard one being AdabasD (which is a database). I believe that the feature set is similar to Access, though it is not compatible. Linux Magazine UK ran a series on StarOffice 5.2 last year, and one article dealt with databasing. I checked their web site and I couldn't find the article but you may want to order the back issue. I can check to see if I can find the issue.
