HI Guys,

I have been having an issue here with RH Linux 7.1 and the Ethernet Cards
falling offline with the following type error messages:

Jan 13 08:52:44 corusent kernel: NETDEV WATCHDOG: eth1: transmit timed out
Jan 13 08:52:44 corusent kernel: eth1: Setting 100mbps full-duplex based on
auto-negotiated partner ability 41e1.
Jan 13 08:52:56 corusent kernel: NETDEV WATCHDOG: eth1: transmit timed out
Jan 13 08:52:56 corusent kernel: eth1: Setting 100mbps full-duplex based on
auto-negotiated partner ability 41e1.

The card(s) in this machine originally were Intel Ethernet Pro 100 cards
using the eepro100 driver. Machine has been online since Jun/Jul 2002 and
this problem only started to happen around Nov/Dec time frame. Since then I
have replaced the drivers for the EEpro100 to the following:

1) Nov 17 2002 Donald Becker (www.sycld.com)
2) Latest from Intel for kernel 2.4.x

All do the same thing.

Last night I swapped the EEpro 100s for Realtek 8139 cards (only ones I had
on hand at the time) This morning 8:30am the problem happened again, so its
not a specific Ethernet card causing the problem.

This issue requires a complete reboot.

Also I am running the following kernel 2.4.9.34SMP (I am upgrading the
kernal as we speak)

I have been searching high and low for the cause and a fix. I have also
found other people having the same problem. It looks to maybe be a Kernel
Problem? strange packet coming in and causing the NIC to go south?!?

Anyone have any ideas I might try?

Also whats the best method of setting up a Linux server with 2 Nics? Same
subnet (is it possible?)

Thanks
