I don't have a very specific technical answer for you - but hopefully what I
tell will save you some grief. I went through thes same/similar issue. I say
similar because I don't remember the exact errors. I tried everything as
well. I replaced the ethernet adapters and the problem persisted. I don't
know, but I suspect that RH7.1 network drivers are broken or something like
that.

I problem did not go away until I upgraded to 7.2. Now I live happy ever
after -)! Well except for other problems with other things here and there.
The network problem went away though. I put my older nic in there and
everything was fine.
