A couple of options for you Micael. If you don't have MDK up by the 14th
you could always use a free anti-virus software until you do get everything
working properly. AVG from Girsoft is pretty good. If need be I have a few
from cover mounted disks that offer a free year subscription, but who says
you need to use them for a year.

On the subject of sharing files. If you are looking at building a network
or even just having a single system online, you could always use a simple
router or take an old 486 and turn it into a router as well. Some will
allow you to set-up of file servers and the lot as well. Even a single
system online can benefit from router IMHO. Acts as a firewall and allows
you to be invisible on the net.

remember that sharing files (e.g. by disk) can also introduce viruses. as
long
as you won't be sharing files or receiving any data over the network on your
windows system (including web browsing), you are probably safe w/out virus
software. but i still wouldn't trust this unless your windows system is
behind a firewall that blocks things like SMB traffic, but i suppose that's
what you meant by "learn firewall programming" =)
