Next month I will be giving a presentation at the University of Lethbridge on Linux. My opening presentation topic will be GNU and the future of technology followed by a hands on look at Linux for many of the people that come. I am planning a 20 intro to GNU as a reflection of the history of technology, the threats against open technology that face us today and how open source thinking in technology and other areas are vital to the longevity of humanity as a species.
I need some help with some research. I know a few people receiving this already have this information so please email me directly if you can help. Isaac Asimov predicted the fax machine. What year? What book? Companies and individuals are filling patents on sections of the human genome. I have a few questions about this so any experts please contact me.http://www.hgalert.org/topics/lifePatents/patent.htm I have some other research that needs to be done on general topics so if you have Internet and a few hours to spend on http://www.google.com let me know. I was planning on using Knoppix to do the demo, but I see there has been a lot of work on the CLUG version. Is it ready? Should I flash that at the demo? Should we hand out free copies of that? I need confirmation on the date, I think it is March 11. I have no time or address yet just that it is early evening at the UofL. The CIA at the UofL are putting this on. I believe the public is welcome and food will be served. http://www.cs.uleth.ca/~acm8/ They may be looking for help. There is a contact on their site. I don't know if the CIA has made any posters yet but I would like to suggest some input on them. I have not clue about how far along that is. I would like to see a nice flash colour version in HTML or PDF for posting on web sites. I need to make some CDs for people. Some help doing this is welcome. I need to check with CLUG people about using their version of Knoppix for the demo. I don't know if they are ready to show it off yet. We need help getting the message out so if some people in the Lethbridge area would like to contact the local news papers, TV and radio stations and any one else that can help spread the word. Open source opens minds! [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.llug.linux.ab.ca
