Cameron, I am NOT an expert, I did some googling and came up with this.
"ve been getting a weird error. When I tryto boot into Mandrake I get this error:
Detecting USB interface /etc/init.d/usb: line 37: /etc/modules.conf: read-only file system
The error repeats itself until I reboot and all the keys are locked.
After my first install I just thought I broke something since I was trying to set up my USB printer. On my second install I didnt bother with the printer but I still get the error.
Any ideas?"
This was 1 question on this page

Ther seem to several questions on this page in a similar vein. Maybe if you can read some of the answers there may be something there to help you.

PS Just found this
I get the same exact message: "Detecting USB interface /etc/init.d/usb: line 37: /etc/modules.conf: read-only file system" when booting into ML9.0. This message repeats itself many, many times, eventually after scrolling for a while 20-30 seconds, it boots into ML9.0 without further issue (as far as I remember).
More info:
I received no error messages during the install, but the install was very problematic for me; constant and permanent freezes at different points which forced me to manually reboot my machine and try the install again. I tried installing ML9.0 around 9 times. Eventually I got it installed with the above mentioned symptoms. My motherboard is an Abit KT7A-raid, BIOS: kt7_7n.
My workaround:
To get around this problem I disabled the motherboard's usb and moved my keyboard and mouse to the ps2 ports. I then installed Adaptec's usb card: AUA-3100LP and placed my other usb devices on it. After doing all this I was able to do a fresh install (without the install problems) and use ML9.0 and I no longer get the above message.
I would love to get a permanent fix for this and have it working right from the installation. I shouldn't have to disable my motherboard's usb.
Thanks.
