I guess I'm wondering why you don't just get an external usb drive enclosure to put the computers hard drive into and run it from there. Save having to "make a computer" just so you could access it as a usb drive. Memory Express has the enclosures for a little over a hundred bucks, I think. Kinda overpriced, but versatile.
