I actually worked with a router that set up a subnet on USB. For the life of me I can't remember what name it is, but from what I can remember from that time, was that you should just be able to set up an IP address and us ethe USB cable like you would an ethernet. You obviously have to have the the right cabling to do that. Check radio shack as I believe they have the cable you need.
