Here is what I am running on my Web/Email server (www.thelauders.net),
hopefully it will give you some ideas on what you could use for
hardware/software:

PII-400, 500 Megs PC100 RAM (Maxed), 10/100 NIC, 4 Gig Primary Master, 10
Gig Secondary Master, CDROM.

The PII-400 running Gentoo is actually running great. However, personaly
I wouldn't run Gentoo on a P90, even though it could, it would probably be
quite painful lol :) However, any binary distro should run ok on a P90.

Here is a list of software that is running on my PII-400:

Apache 2.0.x / PHP / Perl / SSL
Postfix
Amavis / SpamAssassin
MySQL
PostgreSQL
Cyrus-IMAPd / SASL
Snort
IPTables

My server hosts my personal domain (Online family photo gallery, email for
myself and my wife, etc), resume site and several other web based programs
I use (Ie, my music collection is all on it in Ogg vorbis using netjuke to
listen to it, my bookmarks using Sitebar, etc) Between MySQL and
PostgreSQL, I have 9 active databases running on the system too.

Also, I'll explain further some of those programs I run.... might give you
some ideas on what else you can use your webserver for :)

I keep my bookmarks online using SiteBar
(http://sourceforge.net/projects/sitebar), it can plug into the Mozilla
sidebar which makes it work on both Linux and Windows desktops. That way,
no matter where you go, you have access to your bookmarks and don't have
to worry about having some in one place and some in another. It's a great
tool if you have access to a webserver :)

The best online photo gallery I have found is Gallery
(http://gallery.menalto.com/), if you want to have your family photos
online (There is also user level permissions and anonymous permissions)
for family and friends to see, this is a great program to use :)

That's pretty much everything I think, it's quite a bit for a PII-400 to
do, but it does it quite well I think. The most important thing, is like
you said, RAM. It's not a high traffic site, I use it to play and learn
and provide a place to post stuff for family to see. I hope this gives
you some idea on what to do.

Cheers,
