-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi I would recommend against the p90 cpu. It will prove too short on database and active webpages usong php / perl so go for the bigger cpu. Put as mutch ram as you could. The #1 perofrmence killer on a webserver is disk-swapping if that happens, all hope is gone, plus you stand to loose your hdd very fast. So get more ram, though the 128M sound very ok, i would put 64 more just in case you want to run postgresql and mysql at the same time, and forget to shut down that x session with the gui package manager running :-) Distro wise, i would not recommend a source-based distro on a p90 the less you have all long-weekend for the compile to finish :-) The larger cpu would finish in 30-40 hours :-) I just installes a lunar-linux on a pII 350 with 256M ram. it took 48h to compile the kernel, a bunch of utils and libs, X4, kde311 and fvwm, plus a couple of x applications for my wife. The end result hoever was very pleasing :-)) it is FAST and runs VERY smooth :-) As for the Nic. a 10BaseT would be fine on the internet, but it would prove a bit slow for file uploading from the home-lan. If that is not high in the agenda, then the tenner is going to do the job and more :-) cheers szemir On Tuesday 03 June 2003 17:02, you wrote: > Hey Gang, > > I've decided to give a web server a go and I was hoping some of you could > give me your advice.
