Also, you can try this too (Backup your .config, clean out the kernel source tree and move the .config backup back):
cp /usr/src/linux/.config /root/.config cd /usr/src/linux make mrproper mv /root/.config /usr/src/linux/.config And then try the 'make dep && make clean bzImage modules modules_install' again.
