Does anyone have any experience with HP core switches. We have a Cisco right now, but it's expensive to maintain, and even more expensive to upgrade. I'm thinking it might make sense to switch it out with a Procurve.
I'd be interested in any firsthand experiences, positive or negative.
I have setup a HP Procurve 4104 for a Beowulf Cluster and it worked fine for that. But I didn't have to use any of the management features as this was just one network. No separate VLANs or anything.
We have been demonstrating a Force10 E600 Switch lately and they are really sweet. Their price per port isn't bad but this is a very big switch and could very well be too big for your needs. It takes 7 line cards of 24 or 48 Gig Ports and has the Switch Fabric to handle more than that.
