There are a number of ways to kill off a program. Open up a terminal and try typing: $ killlall kpackage You can also try running the xkill program and then clicking on the window of the frozen program. Saving your session is a KDE specific thing, and there should be an option to not save the session when yu log out. You can also set this in the kde control center. When you are trying to install a package make sure it is a debian package, it will have a .deb extension. If it is included in your apt-get sources then you can install it with a command such as: # apt-get install amsn You can also use apt-get from the command line to uninstall and then reinstall software.
