Quite a little problem. To resolve it manually you can do this way:
1)Go to: /etc/rc.d directory 2) Find the sub-directories rcX.d (here X stands for some digit) 3) open each of them, you will find links SXXhttpd 4) rename all of them to KXXhttpd and then you will not get the appache started on the boot
You can start it manually after the system is running.

I'm running RH 8 and had the original install version of Apache, okay, so then I didn't know much about Linux and whatever and I wanted the latest version of Apache so I downloaded the then latest version and built it from source put the files in /usr/local/apache2 and thought that I had disabled the already installed verision so that it wouldn't run. Appearently I was wrong, the old version still starts when I have need to reboot the system, not very often mind you but it causes me problems as I need the new install to serve some web stuff for work. I tried to remove the package but it didn't like that idea. Should I maybe get rid of the new installation, build an rpm or upgrade the original install and have at it that way?
