Hello Nick,

I have little experience with sound (actually I am hard pressed to have
computers with speakers), however I have a question.

What Kernel are you building? (2.4.x?, 2.6-test?). The reason I ask is
that one curiousity is the fact your console suggests Alsa may already
be installed. The 2.6 kernel can have Alsa built in. I use 2.6 here.

Its a starting point to know. What distribution did you use as a base
(Roll your own? Redhat? Mandrake? etc?
