As someone who has worked with Linux for a while now and also taught it in a College environment, I would also like to add something to that. Having a comprehensive knowledge of a subject (in this case, Linux) does not mean you will be able to teach it. To say that someone does not have a thorough enough understand the subject because they are unable to teach it is not necessarily true. The reverse also applies, just because someone can teach Linux does not mean they know what they are talking about. I've been in both situations, where I am not able to teach Linux well because I lack the skills necessary to teach (Not because I lack the knowledge - I lack teaching ability, not Linux ability). I've also been in other situations where the teacher doesn't really have any knowledge of the subject, they just know how to read a "course material manual" and regurgitate it.... I'm sure many people can relate to that as well.
