Kevin,

I spent almost 5 years working with technology in education (a growing private school in Calgary).  I'm familiar with the "business" issues, if you will, surrounding technology in the Education system, Alberta Learning and somewhat with the CBE as well.  I'd be very interested in seeing this initial proposal (and hopefully acceptance) promoted effectively to the "upper management" decision-making levels as well if there is an in-road to such platforms through this juncture.  It could be an excellent opportunity to strategize a business proposal in addition to presentation/demonstration.

I (still) believe that Education and Linux/Open Source can benefit mutually and symbiotically over the long haul.  I am eager to see Linux and/or Open Source take a foothold in Education, so if I can assist in any way please let me know.

Best of luck to you, and keep us posted.

Sincerely,
Curtis

Subject: (clug-talk) CBE Wants to hear from us - it's a start at least.

I have finally found a school principal who is interested in a quick demonstration of Linux.

She understands that it against CBE Policy and that she cannot impliment it immediately in her school.

I would like to prepare a 1 page persuasive essay on why it is worth her spending 1-2 hours for a 'CLUG meeting on steroids' where she can see a few samplings on what Linux can offer to the school.

Assuming this is done well, I believe that she can help to drive it from inside CBE.  A principal would certainly have more 'pull' than a bunch of geeks chanting "Linux rules".

Also, if this has been done before (especially successfully), I'd like to learn more about it.  Links appreciated.

I'd also be interested in suggestions and/or volunteers.  I'll write the paper myself, but I could use some additional hands if/when it came time to actually present something.

Thanks
Kev.
