This is my understanding, and has been my experience. Of course, I've only been to one so far. <hangs head in shame> Given that, though, my experience has been that it is totally possible to both "do stuff" for yourself (or other non-newbie users) and "contribute" to new installations/users at an InstallFest. I can't commit to being at the InstallFest just now, but I personally would be very interested in walking through LFS, no less with "Da Man" just inches away. ;-) My initial foray into LFS (just reading so far) has resulted is a much greater awareness of how Linux really fits together and works, if not understanding. And I think that a deep understanding is very useful in helping other people get up and running, both at InstallFests and in the future. In short, I'll be your guinea pig. :-) Curtis -----Original Message----- From: Gerard Beekmans [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: October 2, 2003 10:17 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: (clug-talk) Installfest On Thu, 2003-10-02 at 21:31, Graham Monk wrote: > Installfest is confirmed for 18h Oct at www.vfxweb.com > thats 1 block east the aero museum. > More details tommorow. Who are Installfest's target to? Is it for beginners who need help with their first time installation, or do people also join who want to try out something new but aren't perse Linux newbies? Yes there's an ulterior motive behind the question. I've talked to some people at the meeting last night and to some others by email, who have installed LinuxFromScratch before, or have heard about it but aren't quite ready to try it out yet, etc. If there are people here who'd like to take the plunge and try out an LFS installation, I'd be more than happy to help out where needed. We need beta testers of our upcoming 5.0 release anyways, so dual purpose ;o) But if I know up-front people would like to try it out, I can look into maybe bringing some material (ie: copies of a bootable LFS CD so one could start with an empty harddisk). -- Gerard Beekmans http://www.linuxfromscratch.org http://www.beekmansworld.com // Linux Consultant --- OSDN / DevChannel // If Linux doesn't have the solution, you have the wrong problem
