-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hey Graham,
Good on you! Thanks so much for taking the reins like this. It shows your committment to the Group. I like it. Here are my comments in a nutshell: Location sounds good. More space, power and connectivity are good improvements (this is in no way a dig at Nexus, we will gladly go back there again I'm sure) It's a little North but that should be okay. Would you mind nailing down bus and C-Train access there? I know people are going to ask about this. Perhaps this could be a test-run for getting the car-pool thing going. We should have all the details firmed up if we are to try and get notice to the Herald. The notice would have to be given by next Tuesday at the latest. I can handle that as long as I have all the details. Keep in mind they may edit what I send for space constraints. I like the name badge idea. I can print some up with a generic layout for anyone attending/helping. I definitely would like to see a box or two set up with Linux pre-installed so that folks can see it running. Johnny Stork donated a box for the last InstallFest that we had intended to do burning with. Perhaps we can get that machine (or something like it) from him again. Of course this would not discourage anyone from bringing their boxen. I will most likely have my laptop there to show off how linux runs on a low-end machine. I would like to have the other end of the spectrum covered as well. A high-zoot box that can really shine. Any takers? Johnny had mentioned having his box set up with Multimedia cabapility; DVD etc. This would be cool. Gaming would be even neater. The presentation idea is a good one. It looks like Gerald or Shawn are keen to do this. I suggest we leave this as an option. If it happens it happens. I don't want someone pressured into doing something and slapping together a quick and dirty presentation. I would like to see some time spent developing something like this. I'm not saying someone couldn't do a quick and dirty presentation BTW. I like the donation idea. For the Barbecue we tried to have folks bring stuff for the Food Bank. The Cancer society would be a good choice. This is a tough one as everyone has their donation recipients of choice. If it's going to be a contentious issue, then I say we don't do it. We'll see I guess. It would be good to talk to the potential recipient organization first as some of them have guidelines as to how they can accept donations. I think refreshments and snacks will sort themselves out. If you like you can get people to commit to bringing whatever so that you have an idea for yourself. Yes, I see this as being a good way to showcase Linux functioning as well as send people home with a fresh install or tweak. Thanks again Graham for making this come together.
