Ok Let try this again. When I first start up the machine from the floppy I get a boot prompt. From here I type "Linux 3" and drop myself into runlevel 3 for text mode login. When I do get a login screen it is text-based and says localhost login. I can login as a user and as root (At this point I am only in CLI, which I suspect has something to do with my x configuration being out of whack.). At this point Aaron instructed me to edit /etc/inittab. I look in there but could not find the refernce he indicated...but I could not be looking in the right place or for the right file. At one point I did get VIM working but forgot my vi commands and rebooted cause I was to damn impaitent. Now when I get to that same point when i type edit I don't get anything. The following is a list of what I am hoping to solve:
1) To actually login to the KDE environment. May change to something smaller (blackbox, etc.) later on. 2) To be able to boot without the floppy disk. 3) To locate my boot parameters in the right area. 4) Login via the gui (if I don't not a huge deal. I can handle CLI.) I feel like a newbie (maybe cause I am!!!) :-) Cameron
