As far as I know, you are right. I don't know if there are other services
that need the scsi emulation to work properly, I know that when I install
red hat on a box with no cd-rw drive, that line is omitted automagically....

okay so the line in my grub conf is

kernel /vmlinuz-2.4.20-20.8 ro root=LABEL=/ hdc=ide-scsi

so I can just hack off the "hdc=ide-scsi"
and that should do it right? my cd-rom will still be detected, right?
