That's pretty similar to the solution I use, with the addition of running arkeia(http://www.arkeia.com) on the linux box, and backing up all the windows data to tape. Arkeis is free to as a server use on a linux box with up to 2 type 1(windows 98 and up clients -no servers) clients as well.
