Is this a server machine you are buidling? I ask because if you plan on compiling XFree, Qt, KDE, GTK & Gnome on it and it took ~40 hours for stage 1 & 2 it would probably take at least a week to compile all 5 of those packages (Probably more actually). If you are going to need a GUI on it, I would recommend XFCE (http://www.xfce.org). It's quickly becoming the best lightweight desktop environment out there.
