What is the exact error? Have you tried pasting it into google?

If you can ping hosts on the internet, then you have a network connection, so I 
don't see how it could be your network card. I'm guessing something is wrong 
with apt itself. I assume you have tried various sources in your sources.list 
file. Do you get the errors when you try to do an apt-get update?
