-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 So, I was copying a file from my watch (a USB memory watch), and the process hung. lsof shows me the to and from files still open, which means I can't unmount the drive properly (yes, I could just disconnect the USB, but that's not the point). But a `kill -s 9 <process id>` of the cp process doesn't touch it. Even as root I can't kill it. Now, I have another process (a mv of about 20 files, from one partition to another, not involving the watch drive) that died and it can't be killed either. Yes, I can reboot my machine, but is there something that would work other than that to kill off these mostly dead processes?
