Hmmmm, well that sucks. :-) `ps -ax` reveals the STAT of my two dead processes is indeed D, which according to the manpage is "uninterruptible sleep (usually IO)". And neither 12 not 15 killed them either. Sigh. Well, thanks guys. I guess a reboot is the answer (it's just this isn't the first time my silly watch has done this, so I was hoping for something faster/cleaner in case it does it in the future - rebooting is just so Microsoft).
