Kodak, Canon & HP always seem to be excellent choices as far as quality and features for the dollar. I know HP has at least one 5.3 MP camera for around the $5-600 range (last time I checked). I personally like HP, because of the docking system and the features related to that. As near as I can tell, they are the ones who brought that type of idea to the digicam market. Kodak and Canon both have docking systems as well.
If you want good unbiased reviews you could dpreview.com or tomsharware.com once you have narrowed down your choices. When it comes to slapping down your dollars, I always look at Staples because they offer a good price, a price guarentee (150%), are not commisioned and are a service partner with HP...and have good relationships with vendors. You can special order things as well. Go to the one by Chinook Centre or Westhills or talk to Dana at the downtown store for excellent knowledge. I know they offer free delivery to Canmore as well.
