Thanks to Brian for helping me with this issue off-list. I appreciate his help and expertise.
The latest release of WINE is Wine-20040121. I grabbed it and compiled it and everything works again. Not sure what the problem was before, but it is working now. I was wondering if anyone has tried running Half-Life (Counter-Strike, Day of Defeat, etc.) under WINE recently. I am receiving the error "Could not obtain WON authentication". It looks like one of two things: either the Half-Life networking isn't initializing promptly enough (or at all) to get the authentication out in time ($telnet half-life.west.won.net 7002 works, so it's not system networking) or Valve has changed the VAC security modules again and Linux users are left out in the cold (again). Just wondering if anyone can confirm or deny. Of course, everything works great under Windows 98. :-P As a side note, I am finding this release of WINE to be quite zippy and robust (using accurate subjective measurements ;-). Even Call of Duty runs, although it is too laggy to play online (but that's not all WINE's fault, CoD multiplayer is quite bad right now (awaiting patch)).
