Hi Rod,

Its interesting that you should bring this up. I am in need of a writer to help create Debian/Knoppix Linux documentation. I propose a swap. Quid pro quo?

All the best, Dan

Hello all...
I'm new to CLUG, and I'm sure you get this request often, so my apologies for perhaps making it again. I've grown up on computers and have been a hardware nut for over 25 years. But like so many, I have been heavy into the Microsoft religion for the past decade (or more!).
I operate a relatively active website, and host it on a RH Linux box. I'm busy creating content for that site and the rest of my "day job" (I'm a freelance writer / film reviewer), so I've never taken the time to really learn Linux. Over the years I've hired four different people to do work for my site. They do their code and then leave for a better job in California (really... that happened three times!). I'm tired of paying to have someone "come up to speed," then tell me my site is setup oddly, then they make changes, and then they leave.
I've come to the conclusion that I need to learn this O/S no matter what. Is anyone interested in becoming my mentor? I feel I learn fast, so I'm looking for someone I can initially sit down with for a couple of hours and ask some questions, then perhaps phone for some additional "support" from time to time. I'm willing to pay a few bucks for this, or perhaps trade in some other way (I get occasional movie passes I don't use).
At this point I'm looking for someone with a broad knowledge of Linux administration. My site uses an SQL database and is coded in Perl. As I'm wanting to transfer the site to a different server, I'm focusing on the Linux admin tasks at the moment. And yes, I've spent close to $200 buying various books, etc. I've learned a few things, but am still "stuck" in other places.
I should mention that I live in Calgary. Any takers??
