Most of these types of exams you'll pass if you have some experience. I'd
also recommend checking out BrainBuzz (or similar (I did work for brainbuzz,
so I know them)) so that you know what will actually be on the exam.

I'm certainly in favor of the CompTIA over the RHCE, but I'm not too sure
about the rest of the world.

With some of these exams, the course means nothing. Microsoft's MCSE and
Novell's CNE are the ones I know best. You will not pass their exams based
solely on what is taught in the book and class. You can pass some of the
useless exams (MS Desktop/Server OS or Novell's CNA comes to mind), but you
won't pass the serious ones without experience or a fair bit of time using
either sample exams or on a braindump site (like brainbuzz). If you have
either the experience or the sample exams/braindumps, you'd pass them
without the courses.

My 2cents.

Kev.

Has anyone done Linux+? Is it worth it? The writeup on comptia.org makes
it
sound like stuff I do everyday. Doesn't seem that hard. I hope that
doesn't
insult anyone - maybe I'm just being cavalier, but based on what I read it
seems pretty easy (and, at least for me, not worth taking a class for - I'd
skip right to the exam if they'd let me - I've been doing what they list
there for 10 years now, I think I've got it down). A+ looks pretty easy too
(again, from what I read on their site). It's not worth it to me to spend
several grand on the courses, but a few hundred on just the exams just to
collect a letter or two to add after my name would be fun and give me a
little bragging clout around the office. ;-)

Thoughts?

Ian
