Today I installed RH8 on a drive to test out WPO2000. After the install I updated everything and attempted to install WordPerfect with the install script from Corel. No go. Nothing worked. Tried some old backward compatibility packages for glibc but still nothing. After some searching I discovered that it is the change from glibc2.2 to glibc2.3 that breaks WPO2000, not 2.1 to 2.2. RedHat 8 comes with glib2.2 by default, but has been updated to 2.3. I also read that the change from ext2 to ext3 can also affect it though I am not sure why or how, so this may or may not be true. So, as a test I reinstalled RH8 on an ext2 partition. Without any updates I installed WPO2000 and voila! Works perfectly. So it looks like if you want to run WPO2000 on RH8 the easiest might be to do a fresh install and don't install the update to glibc.

As a note of interest, Xandros - the company that bought out Corel Linux, has posted some comments that they are trying to work out a deal with Corel to continue development of WordPerfect for Linux.
