-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Niels,
I just love reading your emails. There's something very fresh about your ideas. You present your information in a very readable and friendly fashion that I appreciate. Thanks. We have tried to deal with SIG's or committees in the past and I guess we just didn't have the numbers to support something of this nature. People are busy too which is the main discouraging factor. I suppose it comes to how well it is organized and executed and how much committment you can count on. I like these ideas very much. My question is how do you run such a beast. I know for myself as an Executive, I am very busy. I would dearly love to put some effort into organizing or running a SIG or committee. I am not the best person for the job at this time however. It then comes down to volunteers. It wouldn't be so bad if an Exec helped start something up and then stepped back and let it run. As long as it did continue to run. There may be a finite course for a topic as well to consider. Attaining a goal. We have talked about committees. What we have said is that as a Tier Two you may chair a committee, this is purely to build in some accountability. This requirement may not be completely necessary or conducive to having said committee as we have found there are precious few who will give their time to something like this so the adage "beggars can't be choosers" applies. The bottom line is that the Executive would like any committee or SIG to report to us from time to time. We have encouraged SIG's and committees all along. I think Nexus would be a great place to hold committee meetings if they are amenable (and I don't see why they wouldn't be). We should look into this. SAIT would probably be out, I think we already get a beautiful classroom for our meetings. I wouldn't want to push that beyond what they consider reasonable. I don't see the mailing list thing as a difficult thing to provide. We have talked about branching off for certain things. The concensus thus far has been that it would be too much. However, it takes something like this to come along to illustrate the need. I'll let this run a bit in this mailing list before we look at a poll on the website. Great comments and suggestions Neils!
