Thanks Nick and Ray for your help. 

        Problem solved. In single user mode it was easy to change the 
password. Now I have the machine again!

        But if you think about it, this is a serious security breach. If 
somebody knows this method, he can just sit down to the computer, change 
the password and wreck the whole thing. Then what is the password good 
for, except to cause headache for the careless?

        This afternoon I tried to install the Macromedia Flash without 
success. The .gz version was looking for the directory of Mozilla, but when 
we gave it, it didn't accept it. The .rpm version was looking for a library, 
called "libstdc++-libc6.2....." but we couldn't find it anywhere not even on 
earlier release CD's. So it needs more work.
