This has already been answered in a previous post on this thread, but I thought I would also add that having a swap partition is a good thing most of the time (depending on RAM). Even if your server has a lot of RAM available, having a swap partition available will provide a backup if the server decides to take a jump off the cliff for whatever reason (memory leak, unexpected dramatic increase in load, etc). If the server has enough emergency swap available then it just might prevent it from crashing completely when it runs out of real RAM and is unable to close enough applications down to save itself. Usually though, you never want to be in a situation where you are constantly using swap. You should upgrade the available RAM in those cases. Swap is mainly for temporary emergency situations. - -- Trevor Lauder Personal: Web: http://www.thelauders.net E-Mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Work: Senior Linux Analyst LAN Solutions Telephone: (403) 255-5026 WWW: http://www.lansolutions.ab.ca E-Mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.4 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQFAY6rqBsV2IjgYy+cRAj9YAKDaUTU7qOL9Jbr+s2YsThVolXZt6QCfRHWM blXWVlTuvpn/ITBxCbr9Qp4= =vDYd -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- _______________________________________________ clug-talk mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://clug.ca/mailman/listinfo/clug-talk_clug.ca
