A: Because it messes up the order in which people normally read text. Q: Why is top posting such a bad thing? I found this joke amusing, so I'm sharing it. Personally I top post when I think the recipient(s) are the type that expect top posting. on a practical note, I think top posting is less natural on mailing lists like this, where people are often not following a thread from start to finish, and may jump into a thread in the middle. accurately quoted bottom-posts provide much easier entry to a thread's subject.
