Hi Gang,

I'd like to upgrade the kernel on Red Hat 9.0 from 2.4.20-6smp to
2.4.30?. I have the updates from i386, i586, and i686. I know I have a
pentium Pro system, so I would think that I need the i686 - correct?

When I do a uname -a, this is what I get:

"Linux boxname 2.4.20-6smp #1 SMP Thu Feb 27 09:59:40 EST 2003 i686 i686
i386 GNU/Linux"

What confuses me right now is that, even though, I know, that I have a
dual CPU box and that I need the smp kernel, is that it is saying, at
the end of the output, that I have a "...i386 GNU/Linux". Is this
correct, or is there something else going on here?

Also, In the updates for the i686s they only have 5 rpms:

4886742 Nov 13 09:06 glibc-2.3.2-27.9.7.i686.rpm
14009523 Dec 24 12:25 kernel-2.4.20-28.9.i686.rpm
14007097 Feb 12 14:11 kernel-2.4.20-30.9.i686.rpm
14576422 Dec 24 12:25 kernel-smp-2.4.20-28.9.i686.rpm
14572720 Feb 12 14:11 kernel-smp-2.4.20-30.9.i686.rpm

Is this all I need? or do I also choose any other package to upgrade
from the i386 folder? I'm not quite sure what to do with a dual cpu
machine when it comes to upgrades. I've only done upgrades on single cpu
boxes so far. Any comment would be appreciated.

Thanks.
Rafael.
