Incoming from J. Rafael Snchez: > > I'd like to upgrade the kernel on Red Hat 9.0 from 2.4.20-6smp to > 2.4.30?. I have the updates from i386, i586, and i686. I know I have a > pentium Pro system, so I would think that I need the i686 - correct?
What's important is what's in the kernel .config file. I've a PIII, so I've set CONFIG_MPENTIUMIII=y. I don't know about RH, but Debian's are packaged for any one of PPro/Celeron/PII/PIII/PIV for this architecture. Speaking of which, type "arch". That says i686 on my box. -- Any technology distinguishable from magic is insufficiently advanced.
