I found this on a post :
<quote>
If you look at the source code for xdm, you'll see .Xauthority is
hard-coded to live in a user's home directory, and there's no config
option to change it. </quote>
I don't understand source code, but this could explain why my setting export XAUTHORITY=/etc isn't working. (KDE starts and ends right away)
Questions : Is it really hardcode in xdm? Can somebody confirm that? What is the purpose of the var XAUTHORITY? And is there a known way to put that .Xauthority file NOT in /home/user ?
The reason why I wanna do this (in 2 words) A LTSP client mounts a users /home via ncpmount (Novell) and that has some restrictions regarding permissions. The .Xauthority needs to be chmod 600 when mounted with ncp it is 755. I have 2 options have somebody change ncpmount or trying to get that .xauthority file out of the way.
Help appreciated.
Peter
