Hello Group, Just found some advertising info that Linux servers 30% more expensive that Windows servers, I followed the link (http://www.microsoft.com/mscorp/facts/casestudy.asp?CaseStudyID=15438) and found article in Microsoft web site in which I found detail description how one small company had troubles with Linux and then switched to Windows (I was really shocked) but the most interesting part of Linux disadvantages in this article: - (I paste info from it here):
........ part of original article text .................. The consultant recommended that the company adopt a Linux platform using Net Integrator Mark II from Net Integration Technologies, in large part because that was the consultant's area of expertise. Based on its consultant's recommendation, Envirotactics moved from its Microsoft® Windows NT® 4.0–based environment to Linux in late 2002. The company assumed that the Linux platform would address data backup needs, but things did not go as expected. While on the Linux platform, Envirotactics also dealt with numerous problems with its internal and external communications, security issues, and system instability. One of the biggest issues arose when Envirotactics fell prey to the Blaster virus. The firm was susceptible because its Linux system had no critical updating mechanism or centralized virus protection. The virus shut down the company's system for a full workday. "Downtime costs us between $5,000 and $10,000 a day, not to mention the frustration it causes," says Chris Neuffer, President of Envirotactics. "That's a lot of revenue for a small business." ......... end of the part of original article text ...... I like best of all info about Blaster worm how it shut down Linux system! It is looks like some propaganda in Russia when Stalin was the leader. But people who don't know Linux can trust such an articles. May be we can collect database of such propaganda examples and show people the truth. -- Best regards, Alex mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] _______________________________________________ clug-talk mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://clug.ca/mailman/listinfo/clug-talk_clug.ca
