Thank you for the heads-up, and...
I find there's something vaguely disturbing about personal and professional editions of the same software. I wonder if commercialisation is the route to propriatisation. I wonder if the original intention is to open up proprietary thought. Somehow i think that original ideas often get lost along the way.
I wonder if closed and open source will continue to live dynamically alongside each other, like they always have.

Hi there,
This has more to do with the fact that the "Big Red N" is pushing hard to get SuSE to the top of the charts.
Check out Novell's site for loads ....and I do mean LOADS (~10GB or so) of free software as well as eval vers for download--Novell as well as SuSE oriented.
Once you have the "personal" ver, just install apt4rpm for SuSE and go to town with "upgrading" your distro to the pro version.
You also always have the option of doing an FTP-based install of "pro" or downloading all ~4.5GB of data to burn your own SuSE 9.1 Pro DVD--many choices and options on hand.
Cheers!
Chris

Just pick a mirror close to you. It's a 702MB single CD, and it installed easily for me. I managed to find rpms for the extras that never came with the cd. This file is NOT the live-eval version, but an installable one.

_______________________________________________Hi Rob. There will be Suse available, and there will be empty disks available, and most likely there will be a super-burner set-up with 4 simultanius burning dvds and a large disk to store the available isos {this is under construction at the moment, i will tell you when it is ready to go}. and no, you can not download suse. The closest place you can get your hands on a box of suse, that you will be allowd to share and copy to others fir free is at NEXUS, http://www.nexuscomputerbooks.com/
I think it is a good choice to start with linux, also it is very good (suse that is) on laptops.

No decison yet, nobody has responded with a preference for the 24th or 31st. I would think we will be aiming at the 31st or as the only responder requested the 7th August. This one will be at vfxweb and the one after at Computer Surplus probably.

_______________________________________________Okay, I might have missed this so I'll ask just to make sure.
Have we set a sure date for the event?
Have we a confirmed location for the event?
