For the record, since I sent the original email, I have been to VFXWeb
to get a power Y-splitter so that I can have both the DVD combo drive
and my original CD-ROM drive together. Therefore I now have /dev/cdrom
mounting at /cdrom as it was before I got the DVD combo. The CD-ROM is
working fine still. I just need to get the DVD combo going and I'll be
happy.

gandalf:/etc# mount /dev/hdc
mount: can't find /dev/hdc in /etc/fstab or /etc/mtab

I realize that I'll need to add this into the /etc/fstab file... but
I'm not sure how to do this for a DVD Combo drive. Are there any
special commands I need to use?

Also, can I put it at some arbitrary mount point, say /dvd or /cdrw ?

gandalf:/etc# cdrecord --scanbus dev=ATAPI
Cdrecord 1.10 (i686-pc-linux-gnu) Copyright (C) 1995-2001 Jrg Schilling
scsidev: 'ATAPI'
devname: 'ATAPI'
scsibus: -2 target: -2 lun: -2
cdrecord: No such file or directory. Cannot open SCSI driver.
cdrecord: For possible targets try 'cdrecord -scanbus'. Make sure you
are root.

I'm not quite sure what this means, but there is more here than when I
didn't use the dev=ATAPI option.

I have checked the lists.debian.org archives to no avail... but then I'm
not really all that good at searching archives like that. I shall try
the groups.google.com route next as well.

I shall try adding the 'append...' line to lilo.conf as suggested, too.

Thanks,
