Hi Tom. I think this might be an unfortunate incident where email is not always the best communication tool. Sometimes a perfectly innocent message may come across as being very terse. My personal take on the previous messages was more along the lines of "right, security might be a problem, lets take some steps to minimize these issues."
Also, on a mailing list, if you reply to a message, chances are the response is going to the whole mailing list. Of course, the list administrators might be able to alter this so a response goes to only the original sender, but that defeats the purpose of a mailing list. I myself recently made a blooper with regards to this and inadvertently sent a message to the list that was only intended for a single person. I hope you you are able to consider any potentially offending messages in a different light (considering emotions and tone of voice doesn't always come across right), and see them for the helpful tips they were intended as.
